ABUSIVE RABBI'S

I was just sitting here pondering why it is that there are so many "rabbi's" who are abusive and/or egotistical, power-hungry, bullies? What is is about the rabbinate that attracts these horrible men? I've read that the same personality types who make "good" rabbi's also predispose these same rabbi's to abuse their power. The more I learn about abusive rabbi's and the more abusive rabbi's I come into contact with, the more I wonder why I bother with organized religion to begin with. Judaism as a religion is a beautiful thing - unfortunately - people often profane it and spoil it. G-d is not the problem - people are.

    Chavah,

Come to the east coast and I will show you so many wonderful good Rabbi's, you'll regret this post.

Look at mayerson's picture. That isn't what an ultra orthodox Rabbi looks like.

Lets not forget. In every barrel of white sheep, there is going to be a black one.

But don't forget the 99 white ones.

I too am a survivor of rabbinic sexual abuse, which has caused a crisis of faith for me. As a conversion candidate, my first mentor was a rabbi who seduced me and then asked me to move to another city with him so he could escape his past. Of course, an offer of marriage (as originally promised) did not come to fruition so I did not move with him to Chicago. Lately I have been hearing accounts from other women he seduced who were co-workers at the nursing facility at the time he was married with four children. Needless to say, my conversion progress has been greatly stalled because of this experience.

I am having a crisis of faith as a result of rabbinic seduction. As a conversion candidate, my first mentor was a rabbi who continued to use me sexually and made great promises about "building a life together" once I became Jewish. Then he took a job in another city but did not bring me along as his partner or spouse. This has stalled my ability to convert because of a crisis in my faith and I am now so angry that I cannot move forward. Any suggestions?
